Organization Description

The International Maternal Pediatric Adolescent AIDS Clinical Trials Network (IMPAACT) is a cooperative group of institutions, investigators, and other collaborators organized for the purpose of evaluating potential therapies for HIV infection and its sequelae in the infant, pediatric, adolescent and pregnant women populations.

IMPAACT has two components; one is funded by the National Institute for Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), and one by the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD).

The first component (IMPAACT/NIAID) operates as a group of cooperative agreements between NIAID and the Central Group, the Clinical Research Sites (CRS), and the Statistical and Data Management Center (SDMC). The CRSs are hospital- or academic-based units that provide clinical investigators and enroll patients into the clinical trials. The Operations Center shall coordinate, administer, and support the activities of IMPAACT. The Statistical and Data Management Center (SDMC) is composed of the Statistical and Data Analysis Center (SDAC) and the Data Management Center (DMC).

The second component (IMPAACT/NICHD) operates as a contract between the Pediatric, Adolescent and Maternal AIDS Branch (PAMA) of the Center for Research for Mothers and Children (CRMC) at NICHD and a central Pediatric/Perinatal HIV Clinical Trials Network Coordinating Center, which subcontracts with hospital or academic-based units for the conduct of clinical trials. The Community Group (ICAB) has representation within both of the components of IMPAACT to express community activity and concerns.
